What’s Up Wednesday

The lovelies Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk came up with the WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY meme. Here’s Jaime’s explanation about it: “It’s similar in some respects to the Currently… post, but it’s been whittled down to only four headings to make it quicker and more manageable on a weekly basis. You’re invited to join us if you’re looking for something to blog about, a way to let your blog friends know what’s been going on with you.”

WHAT I’M READING

I read The Trouble With Goodbye by my friend Sarra Cannon. Last night I started The Last Single Girl by Caitie Quinn.

Confession: I enjoy novellas so I’ll probably try to read a bunch of them this year – it’ll be easier to keep up with my goodreads challenge that way lol

WHAT I’M WRITING

I’m still editing Playing Pretend – it’s due back to my editor next Monday!

But I’m still taking notes of Breaking Fences – which I’ll start writing next week – as new ideas and plot points keep coming to me.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

I don’t know, really. Life is good and that’s about it right now. Nothing too exciting happening …

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

My hubs bought the new Xbox One and the whole family has been obsessed with it. It’s so cool. You say “Xbox turn on” and the whole thing – console, TV and home theater – turn on and recognize who is in front of the TV and even says “Hi Juliana” … I also bought Zumba Fitness World Party for the new video game and I’m loving it. I loooooooooove dancing so this is a fun exercise for me. I stop because I get too tired, not because I don’t want to do it anymore LOL

We took the kid to Disney on Ice last Sunday and omg, she loved it and I loved it too!

Tomorrow I have a write-in with Ginger, and then Saturday I have a write-in with all of my girls: Ginger, Cris, Ghenet, Jessica and Katlyn. Can’t wait!

Hi everyone! Happy 2014! I posted My 2014 Plan (general goals) and My 2014 Plan – Part 2 (upcoming books) the other day, in case you’re interested. Have you posted goals for 2014? I want to know them!

Anyway, first What’s Up Wednesday of the year … and my first one in a month! *hides*

WHAT I’M READING

Reading was very slow last month and I finished the year reading only 60 books (down from 80 in 2012!). I’m hoping this year I’ll read close to 80 books again …

This week I finished Mockinjay by Suzanne Collins and For Real by Chelsea Cameron. I’ll start a new book tonight, I just don’t know which one yet …

WHAT I’M WRITING

I’m actually editing Playing Pretend after getting the first notes from my editor. The manuscript is due back to her on Jan 20th, so I better hurry! ;)

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Not the cold and the snow, that’s for sure.

A new year. That’s what inspires me. It’s like starting fresh and having the opportunity to try again, to do it better, to give my best, to be my best. I’m excited and super nervous about this year.

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

I went down to NC and SC during the holidays – we visited friends from Brazil who have been living here in the US for as long as we do, and we all live in the same town in Ohio once, so that was fun. Now I only see them once or twice per year … Anyway, even though we drove 12 hours to go and 14 hours to come back, it was worth it!

While in SC, I remembered author Sarra Cannon had just moved to SC and I thought I was somewhat close to her. We exchanged a few messages and we found out we were in the same town! So we scheduled a meeting at a Starbucks. It was sooooo good. It’s great to talk to someone in the industry, someone who writes the same categories/genres as you, who also self-publishes and understands everything!

What else? I meet with some local writers once month or so (*waves at Cris, Ghenet, Ginger and Jessica*) and we spend the day writing … and talking about writing, publishing, reading, etc ;) Our next write-in is Jan 18th and I think another writer will join us (*waves at Katlyn*). But tomorrow I’ll have my first weekly write-in with Ginger! I’m very excited. Usually, I get a lot more done writing-wise when I’m not at home LOL

I haven’t posted on What’s Up Wednesday in three weeks!

WHAT I’M READING

I haven’t read much and I feel terrible about it. I finished a holiday novella and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. That’s it. In three weeks! *hides*

WHAT I’M WRITING

I wrote 3500 words on Monday, then 4000 words on Tuesday. Now, I just need to write one more scene of Playing Pretend and it should be done! Good thing too, since it’s due to my editor on Monday! AAHH!

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Movies like Catching Fire, The Hobbit, Thor, Man of Steel, City of Bones … especially the ones that were books before – it’s so magical to see the words we read and love on the big screen :)

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

My MIL has been here since Thanksgiving so we have been eating a lot lol I bake more cakes and desserts and all that jazz when we have guests … once she’s gone next Monday, I’ll begin a serious diet (ha!).

Two weeks ago, my car decided it should kiss a tree. Don’t ask me about it, ugh, I’m still mad at myself for it. I don’t have a rental car on my insurance plan because I work from home and the kid takes the bus to go and come from school, but like I mentioned above, my MIL is here and she wants to go shopping all the time. Plus, this week and the next my daughter has extra rehearsal for the Winter Recital. So, right now, having to deal with only hubs car has been a nightmare. And the repair shop had promised my car for yesterday, but on Monday they called me saying they found way more damage than they first evaluated, which means at least one more week without my car :(

On unrelated news, I’ve published SOUL OATH (The Everlast Trilogy #2) on Nov 25th. Right now, there’s a book blitz for it, and the blog tour starts next week – both have a giveaway and you should enter them. Also, there’s a giveaway on goodreads (widget below):

I haven’t posted on What’s Up Wednesday in two weeks, so I have a lot (I think) to report:

WHAT I’M READING

I read My Story Can Beat Up Your Story by Jeffrey Schechter – great, great plotting book. Seriously, you all should read it!

I also read State of Chaos by Summer Lane, and 3 Xmas novellas: If I Return by Sawyer Bennett, Off the Market by Magan Vernon, and Christmas Catch by Chelsea Cameron.

I also read Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout – much better than Origin, which I still didn’t finish.

WHAT I’M WRITING

Remember I said I aimed to write 15k words of Playing Pretend two weeks ago? I ended up with a little over 6k only – the kid got sick and stayed home Thursday and Friday, so no writing for me :(

Last week, I worked on the last pass of edits of Soul Oath. Now, the eARCs are out with bloggers and I’m back to Playing Pretend. I wrote 3000 words on Sunday during write-in, Monday I worked on ARCs of Cup of Life, and then I wrote another 1000 words on Tuesday – had to work on some guest posts and interviews …

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Once Upon a Time.

I’ve watched the 1st episode a long time ago and though meh, this isn’t that interesting. But everyone on twitter talks about it, so last week I decided to give it another try. I watched the 1st episode again and pushed to the 2nd episode – well, I only stopped after I watched the 5th, so that should tell you if I liked it or not. I’ve been watching it while on the elliptical and my lunch breaks and sometimes after the kid goes to bed, but before watching a movie with my hubs, so, I’m already on the 10th episode of the 2nd season!

I’m amazed how they are putting the fairy tales together, how they all fit, the twists! It’s awesome and I’m really jealous of their creativity!

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

As I mentioned above, the kid was sick during Halloween, so we ended up missing Trick or Treating – however, we played trick or treating inside. My hubs and I got a bowl of candy each and we hid behind doors. The kid went around the house, knocking on the doors. We opened the doors, pretended surprise, told her how beautiful her costume looked lol It lasted a looooong time, because she wanted to do it in every single door. But it was fun. She loved it.

2013-10-31 17.47.00

Whatelse. I had a write-in last Sunday with Ghenet and Jessica – I left a little early, but it was very productive anyway. Even if I had gotten only a few words down, it’s good to see them and talk about writing and publishing a bit.

And the rest has been just routine …

WHAT’S UP WITH MY BLOG

– Well, not on my blog, but on NA Alley: we have a survey up. Please, spare two minutes of your time and answer it.

– Soon Soul Oath is going to be out and the sign-ups for a week-long book blitz  is up!

WHAT I’M READING

I read Lovely by Beth Michelle – a New Adult told from a guy’s POV. Different and interesting. I really liked it.

Now I’m reading My Story Can Beat Up Your Story by Jeffrey Schechter – so far it’s really good and funny. I laugh every few paragraphs ;)

WHAT I’M WRITING

I’m working on Playing Pretend … I want to write 15k words this week. Monday, I wrote 2700; Tuesday, I wrote 2300. So today, to stay on track, I should write 4000! Yikes!

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Dancing.

As I mentioned on a previous What’s Up Wednesday, I bought the Zumba game for PS3 – it’s great but I needed more. So, I have turned on youtube on the living room TV, which is hooked up with a great home theater, search for songs I really like, turn the volume really loud, and dance! hehe And it’s so good … I mean, not only as an exercise for my body, but for my mind too. I love, love dancing … and I think that my dance session actually makes me want to dance more, so some nights, after the kid has gone to bed, I put on my earphones and dance again!

One of the current songs:

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

Nothing much.

On Sunday, hubs and I celebrated 12 years together (not our wedding anniversary – that’s in April!), so we went out for dinner, then watched a good movie cuddled in the couch ;)

What else? Getting ready for Halloween tomorrow and then taking the kid to a birthday party on Friday.

Last year, hurricane Sandy hit us during Halloween. Since majority of the town was without power and trees blocked streets and all that jazz, the townspeople got together and created the Trunk of Treat. Everyone drove to the town green, parked their cars there and the kids had their trick or treating around the cars! It was so much fun that this year they are doing it again just because everyone liked it!

Oh, and I joined Instagram this morning! Still have no pics there, but I’m there …

WHAT I’M READING

I finished Frostbite by Lynn Rush last night. It’s labeled NA and the protagonist in the last week of HS – it’s fun and fast-paced. I recommend it ;)

During the write-in on Sunday (more about it later), Ghenet was reading The Plot Whisperer and Cris said she had just read My Story Can Beat Up Your Story by Jeffrey Schechter and loved it – so I bought both of those once I got home. That conversation made me realize that I haven’t read many craft books lately, and I should. Everyone should. I also remembered I had started Writing Irresistible KidLit by Mary Kole but didn’t finish, so I did that. I picked it up and finished it on Monday night. I confess it wasn’t anything new. Mary Kole touches on characterization, emotions, goals, plot, theme, voice, etc – it was a good reminder. I guess a beginner writer might benefit more of this book, though.

Now I’m browsing through my kindle and my shelf, trying to figure out which one of the 300 books I will choose …

WHAT I’M WRITING

Soul Oath (The Everlast Trilogy #2) and Cup of Life (The Everlast Trilogy #2.5) are with my editor for line-edits, and I’m back to Playing Pretend – I have 27k words down and it should be other 30-35k to finish it. Monday I relaxed – I think it was deserved! Tuesday I began rereading those 27k words – I should finish rereading today, I hope, and then I’ll start (finish?) writing it.

I see everyone talking about NaNoWriMo … I wish I would participate, but like I said, I need only more 35k for this manuscript, and I need to start it now because 2 weeks of Nov are reserved for editing Soul Oath and Cup of Life … this year, I think I’ll just cheer on :)

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

I don’t know. Music, life, reading, dancing, my story kernels … but nothing in particular, not that I noticed.

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

I had a great write-in with my girls last Sunday – Cris brought a new girl to our group, Jessica, and she’s really cool. Ginger couldn’t make it to our write-in, though I’m sure she’ll be there on the next one!

The cover reveal of Playing Pretend is set for Nov 8th and sign-up is open! I’m very excited about it. It’s a light, fun, smexy NA contemporary – different from Breaking the Reins, but I like it too much to let it go …

WHAT’S UP ON MY BLOG

These are my blog’s posts from the past week:

– I revealed the second pic teaser of Soul Oath!
– Cover Love: Tell Me When by Stina Lindenblatt
– Book Blitz: The Faerie War
– Cover Love: Released

Whats up Wednesday

WHAT I’M READING

I didn’t touch  Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout this week … I want to, I just don’t feel like it … And I’ve read The Only One by my friend Magan Vernon, and began Frostbite by Lynn Rush last night.

WHAT I’M WRITING

I should finish revising Soul Oath (The Everlast Trilogy #2) and Cup of Life (The Everlast Trilogy #2.5) today or tomorrow, and then I’ll send it back to my editor. After that, I’ll probably jot down some ideas for a novel I want to rewrite that have been in my mind, and then I’ll go back to writing Playing Pretend – I have 25k words down and it should be other 30-35k to finish.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

I bought a Zumba game for my PS3 and I’m very excited about that! I was a ballerina for 20 years  and I love, love dancing. I miss it so much, so Zumba is a great way of exercising AND doing something I like. Dancing is really good to my soul …

Legend of Korra! Oh my God, now that’s a TV show! I love the characters – all of them, I love the plot, the setting, the mystery, the background … it’s perfect. The only thing I have to complaint is about the length. It’s only 24 minutes! And the ending of the last two episodes killed me …

WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO

Like I said, I’ve been “playing” Zumba. It’s super fun and a great workout.

Last night, I switched my iPhone 4s to a iphone 5s so it’s like having a new toy …

My kid takes 4 classes at a local dance studio (ballet, jazz/tap, hip hop and acrobatics) and they have a Winter Follies recital in December – her previous studio didn’t have that, only the recital in May, and she’s very excited about it. And mommy is ready to take a bunch of pictures!

I took the liberty of adding another part to this meme:

WHAT’S UP ON MY BLOG

These are my blog’s posts from the past week:

– Cover Love: Entwine by Rebecca Berto
– Cover Love: Dragon’s Game by E.J. Wesley
– Book Blitz: The Only One by Magan Vernon
– Cover Love: The Star Catcher by Stephanie Keyes
– Book Blitz: I Am Yours by Faith Sullivan
