Juliana Haygert - Teaser Tuesday

Hello friends.

I have no idea how long has it been since I posted a Teaser Tuesday … but I’m here now to remedy this. Two weeks ago, I posted a pic teaser with the cover reveal of Captured Love. I have three more pic teasers to post, so stay tuned because I’ll post them around here every 2-3 weeks until the book’s release.

Without further ado, here’s the 2nd pic teaser of Captured Love:

Hi friends!

Here’s a snippet from Captured Love (Ryan’s POV):

I stopped shoving my pants back on when the girl in the bed moved. I even stopped breathing, lest she woke up and saw me there.

What would I say to her? “Hi, hmm, yeah, I don’t remember your name, or how I came to end up in your dorm room.” No, that wouldn’t be nice. Not that I ever tried being nice. Actually, girls loved when I was bad. Nice did no good to my reputation.

The girl went back to snoring, wrapped only in her flimsy pink sheet.

I put my polo shirt on and leaned closer. The girl was pretty, but the fact that my head throbbed and I didn’t remember anything of the night told me she was so boring, I had to drink my way to her bed. Not good.

I looked around. The dorm was simple but with too many pink stuff. Pink pillows, pink notebooks, pink lamp, pink rug, pink slippers. Over her desk, beside her pink wallet, I found a bill from one of the bars at Gervais Street, three blocks from the girl’s dorm. Those bars were packed with college students during weekends, packed with girls, most of them very easy, which made my life easier. Some days I loved the chase, the hunt, the expectation. Of course, after sleeping once with the girl, I barely ever spoke to her again. But there were days when I just wanted to get in and get out, as simple as that.

Cheers,

Hi friends!

Here’s a snippet from Breaking Fences, which releases just in a few days!

“Bia.”

I halted. My heart sped up a little.

Garrett walked up to me. “Hey.”

I turned to him, keeping my face blank. “Hi.” As usual, he had his brown boots and hat on. This time he wore dark jeans and a fitted dark green button up shirt that brought out the green speckles in his hazel eyes.

He pointed to the bar across the street. “Aren’t you going in?”

I shook my head. “I just walked Phoebe. She has a date.”

“You should come.”

I frowned. “I shouldn’t.”

He cocked his head to the side. Meu Deus, what I wouldn’t give to know what was going on inside that pretty head.

“You haven’t been at the ranch,” he said. “I thought you would come back last Saturday or Sunday. I thought you liked riding.”

“I love riding. It’s the only good thing in my life—” I slapped my hand over my mouth and my eyes went wide. Droga, I said too much.

His eyes narrowed. “Audrey still giving you a bad time?”

Of course he would have heard the rumors. “You can say that.”

“One more reason to come back to the ranch and do what you like.”

What was this sudden interest in me going back to the ranch? “I’ll think about it.”

One corner of his mouth curved up. “Good.”

He tipped his hat before turning on his heels and walking across the street to the bar.

I watched his backside, taking in how edible he looked. I didn’t understand him. He worked at the ranch—his father’s ranch—had already graduated college, and yet was always here, especially at The Bat. He seemed to be friends with his half-brother, and he trained his half-sister for show jumping.

Garrett was a mystery—one second he was hot, the next he was cold—and I felt compelled to unravel it.

Hope you liked it!

Cheers,

He was working on untacking the horses, while Carl hosed them down, and another man brought the tack inside the stables. Eyeing Midnight Dream, I dismounted close to them, and started unbuckling Pepper’s saddle. If they let me, I would do it all myself. Midnight saw me and slowly approached me. He poked my back with his muzzle while I unstrapped Pepper’s saddle.

“You want to play, big boy?” He poked me again, snickering. I laughed.

The trainer came out of the stables, and I froze with the saddle on my arms. Midnight Dream shot away from me, and not having seen or recognized me, the trained chased after the horse for a couple of minutes until he finally caught his reins.

The trainer turned to bring the horse to the stables and halted, his eyes on me.

“What are you doing here?” Garrett asked. His brows knotted in a deep frown.

I forced myself to move and set the saddle over the fence. “Riding.” I kicked my foot in the air, showing off my black and white cowboy boots. “Did you think these were just for show?” I picked up a hose. “And you’re a trainer here?”

Without acknowledging my question, he led the horse inside.

I began hosing Pepper off and she snickered in delight.

A moment later, Garrett was by my side. He took the hose from me. “I’m an instructor, a trail guide, a trainer, caretaker, handyman, and everything else in between.” He washed Pepper’s hot coat. “I work here full time.”

“Of all the places I could have chosen to ride,” I whispered, taking a step back.

I threw the beer in a garbage can, found one of the many bottles of whiskey, poured a good dose in a red cup, grabbed a can of coke from inside the fridge, and dumped half of it with the whiskey.

“My kind of girl.”

I jumped and nearly dropped the cup. Bah, if I had dropped it, my boots would have been ruined and I would kill the jerk who—

I turned around, ready to yell at whomever, but shut my mouth when I found myself face-to-face with Garrett.

He sidestepped me and poured himself a healthy dose of whiskey. No Coke. He extended his cup to me. I just watched it. One side of his lips tilted up, and he wrapped his finger around my wrist and moved my arm, until our cups bumped into each other. “Cheers.” He let go of my arm and took a sip from his cup.

I cleared my throat and drank a big gulp.

Juliana Haygert - Teaser Tuesday

Hey, look! A new feature on my blog! I mean, Teaser Tuesday is not new, but it is here :)

By the way, there’ll be another new feature here on Sunday as well … Two in one week, um?

Anyway, my plan is to post a teaser about what I’m writing or editing almost every Tuesday.

Disclaimer: since these excerpts weren’t edited it, there might be some changes (grammar and content) until the final version is released.

I’m writing the end of Breaking Fences, so why not start with it?

Here’s a snippet:

Garrett turned to me and Tom. “I should probably go to the hospital, check on Delilah,” he said, his voice low.

“Go.” Tom nudged me in the arm. “I know Bia will be a trooper and stay with me and help me out around here. Right?”

My wish was to go after Midnight, but he wasn’t my horse. What if Delilah found out I spent my free time on the waiting room of a veterinary practice? Not that I minded what she thought, but I was concerned about what she could do to the horse because of my affection for him.

“Right,” I answered.

Garrett nodded and started walking away. His usual high chin pointed to the ground, and his perfect posture and open shoulders slacked to the front as if he really was responsible from what happened.

Wait. Did he think he was responsible for it?

I rushed after him and only realized what I was doing when I closed my hand around his wrist, making him stop and face me. As soon as his bright but now sad hazel eyes locked on mine, I let go of his arm.

“Y-you know it’s not your fault, right?”

Hope you liked it!
