#ROW80 and NTS check-in 09/02

Hello friends! It’s ROW80 and NTS update time.

My goals for last week and how it went:

  1. Writing: since my MIL will still be here, I’ll try to squeeze writing when I can, though I’m not sure how that’s gonna go. I wrote about 800 words Monday, another 700 words Tuesday, and about 1500 Wed. Got a full request on Thur from an awesome agent and freaked out (lol). I’m not even querying the thing yet! Fri, talked to that agent and she told me to take my time with revisions, then send the full to her when it’s ready ;) So I spend a couple of hours of Fri revising …
  2. Reading: read book #50. Read #50. Started #51, gave up on it when it was about 35% (with kindle). Then started a new #51, and I’m at 22% on that one.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time. Done.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least. 5 times.

My MIL left this morning. It was a fun time, even though I didn’t get to write much. I always enjoy her company, and her support about my writing is always touching. Also, the daughter loves playing with her grandma ;) The daughter cried a lot saying goodbye to grandma, poor thing.

My hubby seems to be enjoying his Executive MBA. Seeing he and daughter on school makes me want to go back to school too. Maybe I’ll go for that MFA in Creative Writing lol Well, someday …

My goals for next week:

  1. Writing: revising Amber Energy. Giving myself until Sept 15th.
  2. Reading: finish book #51.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least.

I confess I don’t like holidays very much. It means I won’t be able to write since daughter and hubby stay home LOL but I do enjoy spending time with them! It’s a shame there no kid’s movie on the theaters to take the daughter.

But I’ll be on full writing (actually revising) mode on Tuesday!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Have a great week, friends!

Cheers,

#ROW80 and NTS checkin 08/26

Hello friends! Here we are for another ROW80 and NTS update.

My goals for last week and how it went:

  1. Writing: actually, this is going to be revising, instead of writing. I’m back to Amber Energy and gave myself until Sep 15th to finish it. Monday = wrote over 2000 (an entire new scene), and revised a dozen of pages. Tues and Wed = revising, but lost count. And on Thu and Fri I did nothing writing related as my MIL is here and wanted me to drive her around to see the city.
  2. Reading: read book #49. Done.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time. Done
  4. Exercise: 3x at least. 5 times.

I’m one of those blessed girls whose MIL is a nice, fun person and I actually like to spend time with her and talk to her. She’s just awesome. But that means I’m spending a lot of time with her and not writing … But that’s okay. She’ll be gone by next weekend and then I’ll only see her again next year, so I gotta enjoy these moments.

My daughter starts kindergarten on Wednesday and I’m super nervous about it lol I try not to be, but I am overprotective. Being extroverted and very sociable, I know she’ll be fine.

Guys, Lauren is doing a giveaway dedicated to me. Her words: “Just to remind everyone, there is still a giveaway going on! Stop by and leave a comment on Juliana’s short story, INTO THE DARKEST FIRE, and you’ll be entered to win a $5 gift certificate to a coffee place of your choice. THE INTERNET GIVES YOU COFFEE. <–I would say civilization is progressing.” And I say DO IT! ;)

My goals for next week:

  1. Writing: since my MIL will still be here, I’ll try to squeeze writing when I can, though I’m not sure how that’s gonna go.
  2. Reading: read book #50.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least.

If you can, please support the other ROWers! Have a great week!

Cheers,

#ROW80 and NTS checkin 8/19

My goals the past week and how it went:

  1. Writing: actually, this is going to be revising, instead of writing. I’ll get back to Amber Energy. I’m giving myself until Sep 15th to finish it. (I won’t be doing much Thur and Fri, though, since hubby will take these days off work). Mon = short story. Tue = 66 pages revised. Wed = 46 pages revised and a lot distracted. Thur and Fri = nothing (hubby was home).
  2. Revise the short story (2000-4000 words) and submit to the Defy the Dark contest. Yup, it’s up here. You can read it online (only 4000 words, so about 20 minutes) and I would love if you commented and, if you like it, give my story a “heart”.
  3. Reading: read book #48. I started one book, went to up 30% then tossed it aside. It was craft but it wasn’t to the point and I was getting tired of going around and around and around … Then I started another (fiction) and finished it ;)
  4. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time. Done.
  5. Exercise: 3x at least. Five times.

I’ve been really down this week. Not sure why. There were times when I thought I would never write another manuscript worth reading/querying/selling … and I blame the internet for that. We (I) read some stories on twitter and on blogs that just mess with our (my) focus. I wish I was strong enough to just disconnect the internet during the whole afternoon and evening so I would never be tempted to peek and read and comment and stress myself.

At least hubby got home Thursday morning and he took Friday off to stay with me and daughter =)

My goals for next week:

  1. Writing: actually, this is going to be revising, instead of writing. I’m back to Amber Energy and gave myself until Sep 15th to finish it.
  2. Reading: read book #49.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least.

My mother-in-law arrives Wed evening and will spend 10 days with us. She and I get along pretty well and it’s always good to talk to her, but having her here means a lot less done on the writing and reading front. So be warned: it’s going to be a slow week.

That’s it for now.

Go check out the other ROWers! Have a great week!

Cheers,

#ROW80 and NTS checkin 08/12

Hello all!

Welcome back for another ROW80 and NTS update.

My goals for the past week and how it went:

  1. Writing: Monday and Tuesday, continue revising my manuscript (and finish it, then put it aside to get some distance from it). Wed, start outlining/writing something else (DG#2, maybe?). Well, this week didn’t go as planned but I’m not complaining. I stopped revising Amber Energy on Monday. I just needed a break from it, you know. So Tuesday I started working on a short story for a contest (see bellow this section about) it. I researched and came up with loose outlines. Wed, I read all day—had to finish a book that was released on Tuesday lol And Thu and Fri, I worked on the short story. Sent it to 3 CPs, and 2 already got it back to me ;)
  2. Reading: read book #45 and I probably should update my goodreads challenge to a higher number. Read books #45, #46, and #47. As for the goodreads challenge, I updated and increased the number of books I want to read in 2012, but perhaps I still should increase more. I also read 20 pages from one CP’s manuscript, and 30 pages of another CP’s manuscript.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time. Done.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least. Went to the gym 5 times.

On Monday I found out about a short story contest called Defy the Dark. The prize is to be published on a Harperteen anthology! The deadline is Sept 1st. So, even knowing my chances are low, I wrote something for it and will enter the contest. Wish me luck!

Hubby comes back next Thursday! Can’t wait … I miss him terribly. But then his Executive MBA starts on Monday and they are going to squeeze one trimester in two weeks, making it very intense. Then it goes back to the regular schedule: Fridays and Saturdays. But I’m trying to keep in mind that this is going to be worth it. Only 18 months and he’ll have something extra on his curriculum.

Changing subjects, I want to thank Lauren Garafalo for revising my query, more than once. You rock, girl! THANK YOU!

My goals for next week:

  1. Writing: actually, this is going to be revising, instead of writing. I’ll get back to Amber Energy. I’m giving myself until Sep 15th to finish it. (I won’t be doing much Thur and Fri, though, since hubby will take these days off work).

Hello all!

Welcome back for another ROW80 and NTS update.

My goals for the past week and how it went:

  1. Writing: continue revising my manuscript. This wasn’t the best week for this. I don’t know why but I wasn’t feeling my story, but I pushed through. Again, I added at least 1500 words each day, and cut and polished a few things.
  2. Reading: finish books #38 and #39 (goodreads challenge). I actually read books #38, #39, #40, #41, #42, #43, #44 (most of them were really short, like novelettes, though).
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time. Done
  4. Exercise: 3x at least. Four times.

I don’t have anything new to tell other than the update. Hubby is still travelling for work, and I hate it. Daughter is doing well and making me laugh tons. And I’m working (aka writing/revising) when I can.

My goals for next week:

  1. Writing: Monday and Tuesday, continue revising my manuscript (and finish it, then put it aside to get some distance from it). Wed, start outlining/writing something else (DG#2, maybe?).
  2. Reading: read book #45 and I probably should update my goodreads challenge to a higher number.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time.

#ROW80 and NTS checkin 07/29

Hello all!

You probably heard about Roni Loren being sued for using an image out of the internet, right?  I started thinking I was doomed and that my ROW80 and NTS updates would be picture-less from now on.

However, it’s lovely to see how the writing community get together and come up with something. Three friends of mine created boards on Pinterest with creative-commons images that they created or shot and are willing to share. There are Cait’s board,  Jenny’s board and LeighAnn’s board. Isn’t this amazing?

Now I want to take a photography workshop and create a board like these ones too!

Anyway …

Recapping my goals for the week and how it went:

  1. Write: every weekday from 12:30 to 5pm and get LOTS of words down. This week I reread my manuscript, then started revising it with lots of adding and cutting, but I felt like it was good progress. I know I added at least 1500 words each day, and on Friday I wrote a synopsis too 93pages). It’s a bad synopsis and needs revising, but it’s a start ;)
  2. Read: book #38 (goodreads challenge). I’m actually reading book #38 and #39 and halfway on both. One is craft, the other is fiction and both are loooong.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time. Done.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least. Four times.

My goals for next week:

  1. Writing: continue revising my manuscript.
  2. Reading: finish books #38 and #39 (goodreads challenge)
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least.

Hope you can support the other ROWers too! Have a great week!

#ROW80 and NTS check-in 07/22

Hello everyone!

If you’re here and don’t know what ROW80 or NTS are, check the links ;)

So, here are my goals for the past week and how it went:

  1. Write: see below.
  2. FastDraft: write every weekday from 12:30 to 5pm and get LOTS of words down. Well, I was uninspired on Monday, don’t even remember what I did. Tuesday, I wrote about 3000 words. Then on Wed, my daughter woke up throwing up, so she stayed at home with me, demanding my attention and I got no words down (though I wrote about 8 blog posts and scheduled them). Thankfully it was nothing major—she probably just ate something that didn’t sit well. Thursday I wrote 3000 words and Friday I wrote 3000 words. A good count, yes, but for the time I have, I should have gotten more. By the way, FastDraft is done.
  3. Read: book #37 (goodreads challenge) and CP’s manuscript. Read book #37.
  4. Social media: blog at least once (besides check-in) and hop on Twitter from time to time. Done.
  5. Exercise: 3x at least.Went to the gym 4x.

My goals for next week:

  1. Write: every weekday from 12:30 to 5pm and get LOTS of words down.
  2. Read: book #38 (goodreads challenge) and CP’s manuscript.
  3. Social media: blog at least twice and hop on Twitter from time to time.
  4. Exercise: 3x at least.

My husband is traveling to Brazil today, to help a client with a machine that isn’t working the way it should. Apparently, the project is huge. He’s spending 3 weeks there, coming back to the US for two, then more two weeks down there. He’s pretty upset about it, since it’s not his responsibility, but he can’t say no when the president of the company asked for him specifically, can he? I’m pretty upset about it too. I hate it when he travels, but, in his line of work, there’s no way to avoid a trip every now and then. At least his mother is going to spend the weekends with him, so bonus for seeing our family ;)

That’s it for now. Don’t forget to check the other ROWers!

Have a great week!

Cheers,
