#ROW80 Check-in 12/08

Hey friends! Welcome to my weekly ROW80 update!

Here are my goals for the past week and how it went:

  • Writing: just keep writing. I want to finish this novella I’m writing before my brother and his family arrive (Dec 18th). Well, this week was different. Again. I got the final pass on the galleys of my novelette (out 12.12.12!) and I had a lot of emailing, organizing to do. The NA Alley account was also my responsibility this week, right when we had (are having) a big event with Entangled Publishing. So I spent a lot of time answering emails. A LOT. More on this below.
  • Reading: finish book #74 of the year, and critique CP’s manuscript. Read book #74 and #75 and I’m almost done with CP’s manuscript.
  • Social media:  try to be present, but not too much. Bleh. This one is really hard.
  • Exercising: at least 4x. Five times.
Now with the release of my first book right around the corner, I feel the craziness of review hunting, and worrying about sales, and omg nobody added my book on goodreads, and answering 300 emails about all the things. It’s crazy, let me tell you. Looking back this week, I feel like I’ve done nothing, but I know I did. I barely had time to breathe. I ate my lunch always late, because I was working on something that needed attention asap.
Honestly, I hope this craziness passes soon. My main focus is to write and that’s the thing I want to do most of my time. Not answering emails, not reading all the blogs on writing around the web, not hunting reviewers and praying they will take my book (and like it). I can easily see myself going crazy like this.
Once things settle down over here (meaning, after my brother and his family are gone—Dec 2nd), I’ll enforce a new routine, with rigid times and to-do lists and internet blockage. Oh, I will. Cause I have 300 books I want to write RIGHT NOW and if I spend time blogging, tweeting, emailing, etc, I won’t get them done. And I want to.
Speaking of my book, I’m organizing a Release Day Blitz. If you want to help me, you can go to this post and leave your email address on the comments. I’ll send you an email with all the info about my book and me, and then you blog about it on Wed (12.12.12). It would make me super happy ;)

My goals for next week:

  • Writing: just keep writing.
  • Reading: finish book #76 of the year, and finish critiquing CP’s manuscript.
  • Social media:  try to be present, but not too much.
  • Exercising: at least 4x.

There’s my book release on the 12th, we’re going to NYC to see ABT’s The Nutcracker on the 15th, then we’re going to Hartford to renew our passports on the 17th, and my brother is coming on the 18th … which means this next week will be ready getting ready for all that. I hope I can squeeze some writing in there.

#ROW80 Check-in 12/02

Hey friends! Welcome to my weekly ROW80 update!

Here are my goals for the past week and how it went:

  • Writing: just keep writing. This week was a whirlwind of catching up, and I also received edits of my novella, so I worked on that for a little over 2 days.
  • Reading: read book #72 of the year. Read #72 and #73. And I’m over 75% on #74.
  • Social media:  try to be present, but not too much. Bleh. The same. More than I wanted to.
  • Exercising: at least 4x. Six times.
This week was … different. I had some decisions to make and that took a lot of time. I also had edits to get back asap, and that also took a lot of time.

My goals for next week:

  • Writing: just keep writing. I want to finish this novella I’m writing before my brother and his family arrive (Dec 18th).
  • Reading: finish book #74 of the year, and critique CP’s manuscript.
  • Social media:  try to be present, but not too much.
  • Exercising: at least 4x.

#ROW80 Check-in 11/25 – a day late!

Hey friends! Jeez, it’s already Monday and I’m late for my weekly ROW80 update! Let’s do this quick then …

Here are my goals for the past week and how it went:

  • Thanksgiving: Enjoy my time with my friends. It was awesome.
  • Writing: write on Mon. Hm, nope. I decided that only Monday would do no difference on my scheduled and ended up watching some movies (and working their beatsheet).
  • Reading: read book #72 of the year. Nope. Too busy having fun with my friends.
  • Social media: I digress from this one this week. Barely showed up online. Which was a nice change.
  • Exercising: 2x. Mon and Tues, yes.

My goals for next week:

  • Writing: just keep writing.
  • Reading: read book #72 of the year.
  • Social media:  try to be present, but not too much.
  • Exercising: at least 4x.

#ROW80 Check-in 11/18

Hey friends! Welcome to my weekly ROW80 update!

Here is my goals for the past week and how it went:

  • Writing: Just keep writing. Mon: about 2000 words. Tue: 4359 words. Wed: 2482 words. Thu: critiqued a query 3x (exchanging email with writer on the spot), worked on my own query after being critiqued, and read notes from beta-readers on my first chapter. Fri: nothing. Lazy me. I spent the day talking to friends and catching up with my fave TV series. And, as y’all know, I don’t write on Sat or Sun.
  • Reading: read book #70 of the year. This challenge began with 52 books (1 per week) and I increased as I went. It’s sitting on 70 right now, but I won’t change anymore. And, yes, I read book #70 and  #71 too.
  • Social media: I want to spend LESS time on twitter and blogging—so I can get more writing done! The same. Haven’t been gone for too long, or too little. I want to care less about being online, but it’s quite impossible.
  • Exercising: at least 4x. Six times.

My goals for next week:

  • Thanksgiving: Enjoy my time with my friends.
  • Writing: write on Mon.
  • Reading: read book #72 of the year.
  • Social media: I digress from this one this week.
  • Exercising: 2x.

I’m going to visit some friends for Thanksgiving and won’t do much this week. I’ll be leaving Wed morning, but will be completely involved in my trip around Tues afternoon and on. So, you can expect no writing and no gym and, besides some scheduled posts on my blog, almost no social media presence …

#ROW80 check-in 11/11

Hey friends! Welcome to my weekly ROW80 update!

Here is my goals for the past week and how it went:

  • Writing: Just keep writing. It’s time to catch up with NaNo. That went very well on Monday – I wrote over 6k words. Tues, my kid didn’t have school, so no writing. And then my NaNo plans fell apart (explanation bellow). Wed and Thur, I worked on pre-edits (of the manuscript I’ll mention bellow). Fri, I wrote around 2k words.
  • Reading: read book #67 of the year. I did read #67, but I confess I skimmed a lot because I wasn’t happy with the writing … and I read two short books, #68 and #69.
  • Social media: I want to spend LESS time on twitter and blogging—so I can get more writing done! Meh. I blogged a lot, but most were blog posts sent to me, I just had to format them. And I’ve been on and off twitter.
  • Exercising: at least 2x. My doctor said I shouldn’t exercise for a whole week after the surgery, which means I shouldn’t exercise once this week … I wanted to go, but didn’t feel good enough. My jaw and teeth (or lack of) still hurt and I can’t imagine lifting weight and running around like this. Damn my dentist for being right …

So, why my NaNo project fell apart? See, I wrote a novella last year about Valentine’s Day and shelved it. Later this year, I kept thinking about it, that I should submit to small presses and try to publish it. So I did. But then later, a sudden will to transform it into a novel hit (a total rewrite …) and I emailed the publisher with my manuscript and asked to get out of the submission queue (and I was told I was out of the queue). Then I lunged into the rewrites of that novella, turning it into a novel, during this NaNo … on Tuesday night, I got an email with a contract offer on the novella. See, the novella is great, I just would add length and one more subplot (to explain the new length). The story would be basically the same. So … I accepted the offer (here’s the announcement post) and was left without a WIP for NaNo!

While working on pre-edits on Wed and Thu, I thought about what to write next. It can be a problem when you have too many ideas. After much thought, I chose a WIP and worked on it on Fri. Though, right now, I’m not sure I’ll meet the 50k words for NaNo, especially since I’ll be visiting friends during Thanksgiving week … so, yeah, that leaves me 10 weekdays to write about 50k words. So not happening. But, this is my job and I will write anyway, right? So, let’s count the words and see how it goes …

My goals for next week:

  • Writing: Just keep writing.
  • Reading: read book #70 of the year. This challenge began with 52 books (1 per week) and I increased as I went. It’s sitting on 70 right now, but I won’t change.
  • Social media: I want to spend LESS time on twitter and blogging—so I can get more writing done!
  • Exercising: at least 4x.

#ROW80 check-in 11/04

Hey friends! Welcome to my weekly ROW80 update!

Here is my goals for the past week and how it went:

  • Avoid hurricane! It came, it was a mess, but we are safe and sound. The only major thing here was the loss of power. We saw lots of fallen trees around our neighborhood, but thankfully none fell on our house. I confess the force of the winds scared me a bit, but I soon realized the house would stay up lol
  • Writing: Just keep writing. We lost power Monday afternoon and got it back Friday evening, kid didn’t have school all weekend, and I had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted on Fri morning. Writing? What’s that?
  • Reading: read book #65 of the year. Read book #65 and #66. If hubby and daughter didn’t ask me to join at each game they invented to pass their time, and if I hadn’t gotten so dizzy and sleepy after the surgery, I would have read one more.
  • Social media: I want to spend LESS time on twitter and blogging—so I can get more writing done! Ha, haven’t done a thing the whole week. Even with internet on my phone, I tried saving its batteries.
  • Exercising: at least 3x. Big fat zero. The gym was closed for 3 days, then there was my surgery …

Well, what did I expect? To write and exercise after a hurricane and a surgery? Really? Sometimes I expect too much of me, and I’m always disappointed when I can’t deliver. Anyway, nothing I can do about it now.

My goals for next week:

  • Writing: Just keep writing. It’s time to catch up with NaNo.
  • Reading: read book #67 of the year.
  • Social media: I want to spend LESS time on twitter and blogging—so I can get more writing done!
  • Exercising: at least 2x. My doctor said I shouldn’t exercise for a whole week after the surgery, which means I shouldn’t exercise once this week …

The problem with this week will be Tuesday—because of elections, school is closed which means kiddo will stay home and I won’t get anything done. Let’s hope I can catch up with NaNo in only 4 days (I should have 15k words by Fri to be on top of it).

On my blogs this week:

  • The Screenplay Method (The Magic of Storytelling for all Writers)
  • Cover Love: Holiday Fling by Victoria H. Smith
  • Featured Book of the Month: The Crimson Hunt, by Victoria Smith (with HUGE giveaway!)

Don’t forget to check out how the other ROWers are doing! Have a great week!

#ROW80 Check-in 10/28

Hey friends! Welcome to my weekly ROW80 update!

Here is my goals for the past week and how it went:

  • Writing: Just write. Anything. Monday, I reread some notes and prepared to start writing again. Tuesday, I wrote 1769 words. Wed, I wrote 2400 words. Thur, I wrote 2733 words. Frid, I wrote 999 words. Total of week: 7901 words. Not bad, but I know I can do better.
  • Reading: read book #62 of the year. Read book #62, #63 and #64.
  • Social media: I want to spend LESS time on twitter and blogging—so I can get more writing done! More or less. I didn’t blog though, only Sat which had been scheduled ahead of time, so that was a good thing.
  • Exercising: at least 4x. Six times.
My secret to reading more these past few weeks is easy: I’ve been reading at the gym. I try to go 6 days a week at the gym, okay, and only 2 of those days are weight lifting (I’m trying to go for a third  but since I like the weight lifting class instead of doing it alone on the floor, I have to go with the gym’s class schedule and the other classes are during hours I can’t go) … anyway, I can’t hold my kindle and go to my weight lifting class, right? Though, I go to the elliptical for the other 4 days, about one hour each time, and read on my kindle. Friday morning I read 20% of one book (#64) that is over 400 pages during that hour I was in the elliptical (yes, I read fast, but even so!). Usually, I can read a whole book each week while at the gym. And I still read in bed before sleeping. That’s how I’ve been reading 2-2.5 books each week ;)

My goals for next week:

  • Avoid hurricane!
  • Writing: Just keep writing.
  • Reading: read book #65 of the year.
  • Social media: I want to spend LESS time on twitter and blogging—so I can get more writing done!
  • Exercising: at least 3x.

First, we have the hurricane coming. I live right on the coast, 2 miles from the ocean where it’ll hit. This is my first time so close to a hurricane. When we lived down in SC, we only got hit by the left over storms after hurricanes since we lived in the center of the sate. I confess I’m kinda nervous. Anyway, so now I’m anticipating that I won’t be able to go to the gym much this week, and, if power is out, I won’t write much either.

Second, NaNoWriMo starts on Thursday and I plan to write all day, but I’m taking my 4 wisdom teeth on Frid morning, with general anesthesia, and the doc said I’ll be a little dizzy at least until Sunday night or Monday morning. Nice uh … gonna start NaNo behind lol

Anyway, it looks like I won’t get much done this next week, period.

On my blogs this past week:

  • NA is a category, not a genre.
  • Upcoming Agent in the Alley pitch contest.
  • Author Spotlight with Chelsea M. Cameron.

Have a great, hurricane-free week!

Cheers,
