2016 Overview and Plans for 2017

Hi Friends!

For many reasons, 2016 was a terrible year, but it had good moments too.

In my writing life, I came back to writing and publishing after a 15 month hiatus. I was able to write 430k words, I published 2 novels and 1 novella, wrote a bunch more. I learned a lot about my own process and how I can be more productive – hopefully that sticks. I hope my writing got a tiny bit better, after all practice is everything, isn’t it? I strengthened my friendship with writers and connected with new people. I participated of a few workshops and read many craft books.

Hopefully, 2017 will be even better.

I don’t like to make resolutions or goals for the new year, but I like to state what I will *try* to achieve.

For example, in 2017 I will try to:

  • write even more – at least 450k words
  • publish 4 to 5 novels
  • read a bit more (my reading has been suffering!)
  • learn more about marketing
  • interact more with my readers (I’ve been really bad with Twitter and Facebook and I want to correct that). The first step will be to create a reader group on Facebook. More on that later!

I also want to:

  • change the colors of my website – I love the style, but I’m getting sick of the pink lol
  • take a new author pic
  • go to a conference? Maybe participate on a signing? We’ll see …

Also, I love the #wordoftheyear thing, where you choose a word for the entire year. I’m gonna be bold this year and go with this one:

This is the year. This is the year I’m gonna give everything I have to this writing/publishing thing and I hope it’ll work out … nothing will stop me in the pursuit of my goals. I’m determined to work hard, to go after my dreams, to write all the words and publish all the books, to make the most of everything, to enjoy my life and my family and my friends. In 2017, I’m determined to succeed!

That’s it so far. Nothing too big, just a little more than what I did in 2016 – but with more focus.

What will you try to achieve in 2017?

Cheers,

Hi There!

Hi friends,

What is this? Another update post in the same year? That’s a miracle! hehe

Though, I’m still failing on social media. I confess I have no patience to scroll through Twitter anymore, and Facebook can irritate me in two seconds depending on the post I stumbled across. The only thing that is still tolerable is Instagram. And maybe Pinterest, but even this last one I haven’t visited as often as before.

I’m trying to be a little better at social media, because I know a writer should interact more with other writers and readers, etc … and I do miss that but it might take me a while to actually get back into it.

Anyway, what have I been up to? Too many things, actually.

Let’s see if I can list them:

  • I just revamped Playing Pretend. I added 13k words on it, reedited, got a new cover, and uploaded the new version everywhere. I have book review tour scheduled for January. If you’re a book blogger or an avid reader who likes to share your reviews on your blog and/or social media and/or vendors website, you can participate! Follow this link to sign-up!
  • I’m finishing touch-ups on a Christmas novella that I’ll release in December. Heads up: it’ll be free!
  • I’m writing a secret new book! I’ve started it back in July, put it aside to work on other things, but now I’m back at it and I’m using NaNoWriMo to finish it.
  • I’m also working on Breaking 4. It’s going slow as I’m working on plotting it right now, but it’s going. (Though I do have 20k words written on it already!)

nanowrimo_2016_webbadge_participant-200

And these are all the things happening now. I won’t list the things to come, because 1) there are too many and 2) I change my mind constantly and the list I show you today will probably be different from the one I come up with next week.

Now tell me what is up with you?

Cheers,

Playing Pretend is almost 3 years old and, since I still like this story very much, I thought it needed a revamp. I got a new cover and add more words (13k more words to be exact) and reedited.

Update!

Hello friends!

Long time, no see! But hey, I haven’t been THAT quiet anymore, have I?

Though, I’m still failing on twitter and a little bit on facebook, I’ve been working A LOT.

My toddler finally started daycare two weeks ago. At first, I used my “free time” to catch up on many chores I had dangling over my head, but now that [almost] everything is done and organized, I’ve been writing many, many words again. And it feels so great!

On Wednesday, for example, I wrote 7k words! I hadn’t done that in … I don’t know, 3 years? That was a long time coming …

Anyway, let me tell about a few things going on around here:

  • Breaking Through is almost, almost done! It releases on Aug 22nd and the pre-order links are up (check this page for the links). There will be a book blitz with giveaways and such during the week of Aug22-26, and if you have a blog, you can sign up for it by following this link here.
  • A few weeks ago, I announced I’ll be writing Breaking Down, the fourth book in The Breaking Series soon, and there will be a cover reveal for it on Sept 12th. Again, if you have a blog and would like to share the cover, please sign-up for it here.
  • I have two giveaways going on right now, one on goodreads, and another throughout all social media. Check them both bellow:

Mystery Box

See this box? Let’s called it a Juliana’s Mystery Box.
What is inside? Well, like the name says, it’s a mystery, but I can tell you it’s bookish ;)
And I’m gonna give it away on Aug 1st … How can you try to win it? Simple. Sign up for my newsletter! http://eepurl.com/CKsmX
If you’re already a subscriber, awesome! You’re already on the run. If you aren’t, then sign up now!
On Aug 1st I’ll randomly choose a winner!
Good luck!

Hi friends,

Another book is on the way! Yay! After so long without publishing any books, now I’m trying to compensate ;)

This is the 3rd book on The Breaking Series – this is Hil’s story (Hannah’s younger sister).

The release is scheduled for Aug 22nd and there will be a book blitz that week. If you have a blog and want to post about it, please sign up for the book blitz clicking here!

Word Count: 100,000
Release date: August 22nd 2016
Cover: Najla Qamber Designs

From the outside, Hilary Taylor has it all—beauty, money, a caring family, good friends—but inside she’s struggling, full of fears. Events from the past forever changed her, and though years of therapy have helped, she still has a long way to go…. No matter how much progress she’s made, Hil isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to trust men again. Especially one who sees her as nothing more than a pretty face. But Hil knows it’s time to face her fears, and the best way to do that is to start small.

To Guilherme Fernandes life is about three things: polo, parties and pretty girls—only one of which he takes seriously. Gui is too focused on his polo career to waste time on relationships, however he can’t help but be intrigued by the beautiful yet troubled Hil. So when she decides she’d like to learn more about horses, Gui is happy to find himself in the right place at the right time. But what was supposed to be a one time thing, soon turns into a weekly date.

As Gui helps her discover a new found love for horses, Hil’s guard begins to crumble. The more support Gui offers, the more she wants to accept…and the more the lines of friendship blur. Despite knowing better, Hil can’t help it as Gui slowly breaks through the walls she’s built. Now she has to decide if she’ll stop him there, or if she’ll finally let her fear go and allow Gui to reach for her heart.

Update From the Other Side of the Screen

Hi friends!

Look at this! A new blog post! Ha! I do one of these, what, twice a year? lol

But seriously, I’m feeling very proud of myself right now and needed to share a few things.

So, it’s the halfway point in the year and I’ve written 4 books this year so far, a total of 184,000 words (I started writing Breaking Through in Nov/2015, finished it in Jan/2016; then I wrote Everlast #3, which already had 25k words on it when I picked it up in Feb/2016; then I wrote a 20k words novella which I don’t know will ever be published; and then I wrote a new book from start to finish, around 70k words).

You guys, that is huge for me! After not writing anything last year (except for the last 2 months of 2015), I’m doing so much better. And keep in mind, I have a toddler at home with me full time. Next month she’ll start halfday daycare and then I hope to write even moooooore. In fact, I still want to write 2 more full length novels and 1 novella this year.

But the thing is, if it wasn’t for that quote from Stephen King, I wouldn’t have started writing again last November.

SK

I think I would have started writing back eventually, but it would have taken me longer, and I would have been slower … all because of this quote.

(You can read more about that story by clicking here and here)

Anyway, today starts CampNaNo and, even though I need to finish revisions of the last book I finished drafting, I’ll be participating. Hopefully, by the end of July, I’ll have the first  half of my new manuscript written!

All that is to say … keep going! Keep writing! Keep swimming (hey, Finding Dory is finally out!)! Don’t give up! You can do it!

Cheers,
