Model Monday: Fairy Tales

When I started this topic, I didn’t think I would find so much information about it.

Frankly, I don’t know where it started, but Fairy Tale retelling is very popular right now, in books, movies and TV series. But I confess I like it. I love Fairy Tales. I grew up watching movies of the Disney Princesses.

I also like they are changing the weak princess image with Tangled and the upcoming Brave movie.

As for retelling, I like a bit of dark side.

Have you seen this picture, where the princesses dress as the villains on their stories?

And I like them like this too:

Bad and kick-ass warrior princesses (please, don’t think of Xena right now).

Oh, did you guys see the Annie Leibovitz’sDisney Dream Portraits? They are also super awesome, an inspiration. I look at them and feel how magical they are.

TV series are picking up on Fairy Tales. We have Once Upon a Time and Grimm. And I didn’t watch any episode of them yet. Are they good?

Of course, movies are not left behind:

Funny and original

I really liked this one

A mix of many fairy tales

A Cinderella Story

This one is also about Cinderella

Even Barbie caught up with the trend (the Twelve Dancing Princesses)

And this one is based on Alex Flinn’s book

Speaking of Alex Flinn, she is becoming quite famous right now because of her fairy tales retelling.

She also wrote:

A mix of fairy tales

About Sleeping Beauty

More books about Fairy Tale retelling:

About the Twelve Dancing Princesses

A twist on The Red Hiding Hood

Puss-in-Boots retelling

Do you like Fairy Tales? Original or retelling? With dark or humorous twists?

Hope you’re inspired!

Cheers,

Model Monday: Music 02

I love soundtracks. While browsing for Pirates of Caribbean, Thor, Narnia and Lord of The Rings, I found this group, called Two Steps From Hell.

Their latest CD

How come I had never heard from them before?

Well, now I want to compensate for the wasted time lol

I just bought many of their songs and added to my writing playlist.

They are amazing!

Some samples:

(I couldn’t decide between the 785 they have … so I chose a few).

And don’t tell me you don’t think their songs are inspiring! They are simply AMAZING!

Cheers,

Model Monday: Music 01

Heya!

Music is a big inspiration for me. My father has been saying, for the past 20+ years, that music is my battery … I guess he is right.

This past week I’ve been listening to two songs by James Morrison practically non-stop. I’ve been writing while listening to them.

Here are both songs:

Did you like them?

Cheers,

Model Monday #09: Superheroes

First off, wikipedia has a nice superhero page with a list common traits and categories.

Supeheroes … who never wanted to be one?

We all have played superheroes when little kids … and adults lol especially after watching the bunch of superheroes movies coming out lately.

Having super powers, fighting criminals, wearing a cool/sexy outfit, falling in love with the cute boy or girl … aw!

Be it a solitary soul, a group defending civilians, a hidden society … isn’t it nice to give our character the powers we want? I love writing fiction, because we can do whatever we want with our stories ;)

Recent Superheroes movies in alphabetical order:

I simply LOVE Batman.

I love him because he has no superpowers. He has money, yes, and it grants him all his gadgets, but it’s all skills. Super hot, uh?

 Captain America

Daredevil

Fantastic Four (I love a group of heroes)

Though, why Chris Evans is two superheroes, I’ll never understand.

Green Lantern

Now we want to see the Justice League, right? lol

Hellboy

Hulk

I just hate, HATE when they change actors, I don’t care the reason …

Iron Man

Man, Robert Downey Jr. is a very. very hot oldie (he is not that old, though lol)

Spiderman

Not a super fan of Tobey Maguire, but I like this pic of him

Superman

I found this photoshop of the next superman, super hot Henry Cavill

Thor

Do we need to say anything about Chris Hemsworth? Perfect! *le sigh*

Wolverine

And the awaited movie of 2012:

Love the Avengers movie poster

Trailer:

If I could choose one super power, I really not sure what I would pick. Telepathy? Teleportation? Super speed? I’ll have to think about it …

And you? Do you know what super power you would like to have? Pick just one! lol

Cheers,

Model Monday #08: Halloween

Happy Halloween!

Why is it that scary things, dark things, intrigues us, enthralls us?

My opinion is problem the same of why all fantasy intrigues us: because it isn’t real and we are attracted to the unknown … we want to know more, and sometimes we even wish it was true. Not ghost-true, but magic-true ;)

I confess … I’m super chicken for horror movies. I am. And for books too. I read only a handful of horror books in all my life. And as far as movies goes, I watched The Shining, The Exorcist, The Prophecy series and that’s it lol It all happened a long time ago, when I had no sense and thought I wouldn’t be scared lol Now, I simply don’t watch it. Period.

But I also confess I would love to write a dark story. Not horror exactly, just dark, mysterious, with terrifying ghosts and malicious witches …

*images taken down for security serious*

Does Halloween inspire you?

Cheers,

Model Monday #07: Sports

I have a few ideas for books where sports are important for the plot and setting. So, sports inspire me, right? Right.

Even though I was a ballerina all my life, my parents and my brother have been tennis players all their lives (I played for a few years, but soon realized I liked dancing much more). Tennis was such a big thing in our daily basis that we used to have a tennis court in our house and my father hired the best trainers to come to live with us for a year or so, to train my brother. Unfortunately, for a sudden twist of life, my brother didn’t become a professional tennis player, but now, at 32, he still plays and still win tournaments.

In high school, I played handball for 2 years.

My cousin practiced equestrianism and polo.

My husband practiced judo.

All the males in my family love soccer and play as often as they can.

When I come up with a character, I always give him/her a hobby … dance, singing, playing an instrument, a sport, painting, whatever … they don’t need to be the best in it, I just can’t imagine not having a hobby since I had many while growing up. And I guess having a hobby can give depth to a character, especially if I can weave the hobby with personality, or an issue or a twist on the plot.

Right now, I’m working on a tennis player and a polo player ;)

Tell me, didn’t you ever get emotional watching movies about sports? Be it comedy, romance, drama …

Some examples:

  • Jerry Maguire
  • Driven
  • Invincible
  • A League of Their Own
  • Rocky
  • The Replacements
  • Wimbledon
  • Match Point
  • The Fighter
  • The Blind Side

Overcoming barriers, fighting inner turmoils, finding peace within, falling in love … What else could you ask for a good plot?

*happy sigh*

Eye-candy time!!

As I couldn’t go without, here as some hotties from the sports world ;)

Lleyton Hewitt, Australian – Tennis

Tom Brady, American – American Football

David Beckham, English – Soccer

Kelly Slater, American – Surfing

Cesar Cielo, Brazilian – Swimming

José Théodore, French Canadian – Ice Hockey

Fredrik Ljungberg, Swedish – Soccer

Facundo Pieres, Argentine – Polo

Yummy, right?

Aren’t you inspired now? LOL

Cheers,

Model Monday #06: Dance (NSFW)

I just finished writing my novella, with a ballet background. I was a ballerina myself and I used to dance not only ballet, but any dance.

So I thought, well, dance  inspired me, didn’t it? On to write a post about it!

Once more, I have a long post, but it’s long because of the many pictures and videos. Have fun with them ;)

So, don’t you think a guy who can dance is super hot?

No?

Think again:

Cory Stearns (ballet dancer with ABT)

Joaquin Cortes (flamenco dancer)

Roberto Bolle (ballet dancer with ABT)

More Roberto Bolle (yum!)

Angel Corella, Jose Manuel Carreno, Vladimir Malakhov and Ethan Stiefel (ABT dancers)

Now you are convinced, right?

A man dancing is utterly hot and sexy.

Shocker: not all are gay. In fact, most are not! Even hotter, right? lol

Take Michael Jackson, for instance. In my humble opinion, the guy was not pretty or hot on a daily basis… but put him on a stage and play a nice beat … damn, the guy became a dancing magnet!

Another example: Chris Brown had his reputation pratically ruined after hitting on Rihanna, and honestly, I’m not a fan of him, but oh, I’m a huge fan of his dancing.

Girls are also sexy when dancing.

Did you ever see any Pussycat Dolls music video? They know they sell because of their body and looks and the dance routine on their music videos was all about that, but it worked. It was hot and beautiful.

Ciara is another example. The chick can dance! Any of her music videos are amazing mostly because of the dance routine.

Any style will do.

Ballet.

Street dance.

Salsa.

Tango.

Ballet is so pretty ...

Tango is so sexy ...

Speaking of dance, we can’t escape music, since both are deeply connected.

Don’t you like musical or movies with dance themes? I love them. (a tiny list:)

*Step Up (1, 2 and 3)

*Black Swan

*Dance With Me

*Burlesque

*Moulin Rouge

*Mamma Mia

*Dirty Dancing

*Grease

How about the new Footloose? Did you watch? Planning on doing so?

I won’t go to the movie theater, but I’ll certainly watch it at home.

And, to finish this with a big gold key, I give you a very hot music video. The best part is about 3/4 into the video, so, if you want to skip the rest, go ahead. (the quality is pretty bad, but it was the only complete video of this routine that I found).

And you? What do you think about dancing? And man who can dance?
I thought so!

Cheers,
