Daily News #1

… just not so daily.

That’s the name of my new feature. If you guys saw NA Alley today, you read The NA Alley Gazette. What I’ll be doing here, is almost the same, but I’ll include not only news and upcoming events from the NA Alley members, but also from my friends and whatever they are writing/doing, even if it’s NA.

– Reese Monroe (aka Lynn Rush) signed with agent Nicole Resciniti, and snatched a 3-book deal with Entangled Publishing for her Bound by Hades trilogy.

– Summer Lane’s State of Chaos released last month! (Click here for buy links)

– My own Destiny Gift is the Featured Book of the Month at NA Alley – you can enter for a change to win a copy here (only 7 days left!).

– Carrie Butler is re-releasing Strength in August – read more about it here. The sequel Courage will be out October 15th. You can sign up for the blog tour here.

– Victoria H. Smith has two books releasing August 12th – The Bringer’s Quest and Incandescence. You can sign up for the blog tour here.

–  My own Breaking the Reins is almost here too (August 18th). You can still sign up for the Release Week Blitz!

– Jaycee DeLorenzo plans on releasing A Love Less Perfect (Riordan College #2) late this fall.

– Magan Vernon’s Life, Love & Lemons (YA) releases August 20th.

– L.M. Augustine’s Two Roads (NA) releases August 26th.

– Alyssa Rose Ivy’s Enduring Light (The Afterglow Trilogy #3) (YA) releases August 20th.

– Sawyer Bennett’s Off Course (NA) releases August 4th.

– I’m writing Everlast #2 (still untitled). The cover reveal will be in September, and the blog tour is already scheduled for December – but the sign up post should go live only around October.

– I’m participating of a signing with other 35 authors Aug 10th, in Stamford, CT – it’s called Stamford Author Event and it’s free! Check more about it here.

– The New Adult Sleepover Weekend is scheduled for Dec 6-8 in Savannah, GA. You can read all about it and sign-up for it here.

BEA 2013

I live two hours from NYC … which is close enough, but I confess I’m lazy when it comes to drive down and spend a day there.

I was on the fence about going to BEA. I wanted to but like I said, I thought about waking up early and driving there, and ugh. However, when Hannah Membrey told me she was coming to BEA from Australia, I had to go because we’ve been talking about meeting for the longest time and well, she would be so close!

So, I went to BEA on the last day only, and it was awesome! I woke up at 5am, I drove down, I spent 10 hours without food (you just forget eating while gawking at authors and books and talking to everyone) … but it was so, so worth it!

 bea-logo

Here’s the highlight of my day at BEA:

– I stepped in front of Angela James (the Editorial Director of Harlequin Carina Press) and said Hi! Then felt completely stupid about it lol (She tweeted saying she loved it though).

@juliana_haygert I loved it!

— Angela James (@angelajames) June 1, 2013

– I wanted to go to Neil Gaiman’s speech, but the room was full already. He was standing outside surrounded by a bunch of reporters and I stood there, 3 feet from him. If I had recovered my shock, I would probably have asked for a pic, though I don’t know how I would get through the reporters.

– I met Jamie McGuire. When I mentioned NA Alley, she said she loves our blog!

20130601_234

– I met Susan Dennard and Sarah J. Maas. Detail: Sarah recognized me, “You’re Juliana, right?” GUYS! That made my day! Then Sarah stepped into the stage and Susan invited me to sit with her. I was in heaven!

PS: I already loved seeing Susan and Sarah’s interaction on twitter and blogs, but it was SO COOL seeing their interaction live! They really do look like super best friends :)

Susan Sarah and me

– I stayed for the “New Adult Crossover: From YA to adult and back again” panel. From BEA website: “Debut novelist Samantha Shannon (Bone Season – August 2013) and author Sarah J Maas , author of the Crown of Midnight (Thorne of Glass) – August 2013) as they talk with editors Rachel Manheimer and Michelle Nagler about their upcoming blockbusters and the cross over with adult and young adult novels!”

20130601_241

– I met Hannah Membrey (The Girl in the Cafe) and Hannah Ekren (In the Best Worlds). We spent the rest of the day together!

20130601_237

20130601_238

– On a line to get a paperback copy of Throne of Glass, Hannah I, Hannah II and I made friends with Jamie, a girl who works on TV (documentaries) and loves reading. She stayed with us until the end too ;)

20130601_252

– I met Jessica Sorensen (the line was moving too fast and I couldn’t ask for a pic).

– I met Heather L. Reid.

20130601_247

– I met Cora Carmack – she recognized me immediately and we talked a lot about the NA Crush Tourney! (oh, and her lit agent Suzie Townsend was behind her and she came to say hi, because she recognized me from twitter!). Since then, she’s been following me on twitter. WIN!

20130601_248

– I met Giselle from Xpresso Reads and Book Tours.

20130601_249

– I met Karen Rought!

20130601_250

– Also, each line we stood, everything we did, people around us started talking to us about books, authors and such (of course) and everyone was so friendly and smiley! It was awesome.

And then it was 2:30pm, the steam was dying, and I was pooped (not to mention sweaty and hungry!). But it was awesome! I just wished I had met more twitter-friends that I know were there and didn’t get the chance to see them!

Guys, I’m so going to BEA in 2014 and somehow, I’ll try to go for the entire 3 days. I know I’m taking Cristina and Ginger with me ;)

Cheers,

Over this side of the screen …

I have a couple of news and reminders to share with you:

BEA 2013:

One of the perks of living so close to NYC? Getting to go on so many concerts, events, shows, museums, and CONFERENCES!

This time, it’s BOOK EXPO AMERICA :)

bea-logo

I’ll be there all day Saturday, June 1st (with a black shirt with the cover of DESTINY GIFT stamped on it). If you plan on being there, let me know. I would love to meet you!

#NACrushTourney:

Have you guys heard of the #YACrushTourney hosted by Brit, Amy and Jen of YA Sisterhood? If you haven’t, click here to read what it is.

So, since the NA authors and readers are disappointed their heroes can’t make it into the YA Crush Tourney, NA Alley will be hosting the first NA Crush Tourney ever!

NA_Tourney2

This years, we’ll start small, with only one category and not many heroes competing, but I bet it’ll be fun and a huge success. And hopefully next year we’ll be able to expand it :)

The official announcement is up on NA Alley’s blog. Click the link and help us spread the word!

DESTINY GIFT Promo:

Destiny Gift is still on sale for $0.99!

BREAKING THE REINS Pic Teasers:

Breaking the Reins has 234 adds on goodreads as of last night. When it gets to 300 adds, I’ll post the third teaser pic. And when it gets to 400, I’ll post a fourth one, and so on.

Here are the first two teaser pics for your enjoyment ;)

Stamford Author Event:

sae-grab-button

Here’s the official text:

“Join 35 authors of contemporary, new adult, paranormal fiction and more at the Hilton Executive Center in Stamford, Connecticut, on August 10, 2013, from 12pm-4pm. Enjoy an afternoon of books, swag, and more as you get the latest releases from your favorite authors and discover new voices.

You’ll also be eligible to enter a raffle and clinch the Grand Prize: a brand new Kindle Paperwhite, loaded with all our books! Attendees will also qualify to win VIP passes to mix and mingle with authors and book bloggers at the after-event, from 4pm to 6pm.”

Btw, admission is FREE! Here’s the blog in case you want to follow the news :)

Amazon E-book Refund:

I’ve never really cared about this, until I became a published author.

Amazon refund policy states that you can return an e-book  7 days after its purchase – that’s enough time to read it. Did you ever go to a bookstore, buy a paperback or a hardcopy, read it and even if you didn’t like it, return it?

Glenda Wallace created this petition for authors to sign, so we can ask Amazon to cancel their refund policy. Like she states on the petition, “Is this fair or not? This is like going into a restaurant, buying a meal, then asking for a refund after you’ve already eaten it!”

So, if you’re an author and agree with this, please click the link above and sign the petition!

Phew! That’s it for now …

Have a great weekend and a safe holiday!

Cheers,
