First ROW80 update of the year!

Hello everyone!

Here we are, for one more round of ROW80.

Let’s see how I’m doing, shall we?

My goals for round 01 of 2012:

  1. Participate of the EditPalooza workshop offered by Savvy Authors from Jan/2 to Feb/4. (I’ve been warned this is super hard work and consumes many hours of the day. Let’s see if I can keep up!)
  2. Write a novelette (10-15,000 words), revise it and sub it (due Feb 1st).
  3. Write a novella (20-40,000 words), revise it and sub it (due April 1st).
  4. Write a novel (or get as far as I can with it). Actually I’m thinking about re-writing some of my old novels, the ones I wrote when I just started down this path. The stories are good, but the writing isn’t lol I keep saying I need to re-write them, so this might be the time to choose one and get it over with.
  5. Read 2 book every 3 weeks.
  6. Social network: tweet, comment on blogs, and blog at least once a week (not counting #ROW80 checkins).

Not necessarily in this order.

Social Network:

All done.

Reading:

Finally read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins—just the first one for now. Loved it!

I’m reading Revision and Self-Editing by James Scott Bell—this one is the book used on the workshop I’m taking, so I’ll read it slowly, as the chapters are being asked by the editor on the workshop.

I just began Divergent by Veronica Roth. This book won several awards last year. I’m curious!

EditPalooza:

It’s going well. The really hard work didn’t start yet. For now, we had to re-read our manuscripts as a reader, then answer some questions about it. Now we’re working on our main characters.

Writing:

Not much on this front since I’m taking the EditPalooza course.

But I’ve been brainstorming solutions and conflicts for old manuscripts that I want to re-write after the course and I’m taking note of everything.

How are my fellow writers?

Hope the first week has treat you well!

Cheers,

PS: I’ll be stopping by my fellow ROWers’ blog tonight!

Sounds like a lot of writing to do! Maybe you can make some of it overlap.

I was thinking about overlapping, you know.
I heard of many authors who do that and I sometimes wonder if I could do it.
Perhaps it’s time to try lol

I read all 3 of the Hunger Games Trilogy back to back, couldn’t put them down and was in tears at the end of the third one! Awesome books – can’t wait for the first Movie in March!!!
Just about to start Divergent myself – was recommended, if you like Hunger Games you will LOVE this (apparently) and with the awards too – definitely a draw to see if it lives up to the hype!

    :D

Wow, you have an ambitious month ahead – and I have no doubt you can do it. Good luck! If EditPalooza is anything like Holly Lisle’s How to Revise Your Novel workshop, you’re in for an intense month – and your book will be so much better for it. Looking forward to your reports!

Great start. You have a lot of writing projects lined up. With the concrete deadlines, I’m sure you will do fine. I own the Hunger Games trilogy, but have not read them yet. I will definitely get to the first one before the movie comes out. Can’t wait.

I read Plot & Structure by James Scott Bell, and there is so much in it that I want to reread it in 2012. Maybe I should add the other book you mention to my TBR pile. The EditPalooza sounds intriguing. I hope it goes well for you.

Your progress is looking great! Enjoy the ride, Juliana!

I am a “Hunger Games” and “Revision and Self-Editing” fan, but I haven’t read “Divergent” yet.
I’m super-curious about EditPalooza. Please keep us posted on that.
    Good progress so far, Juliana!

The Hunger Games is just wow! I was barely able to put this book down for a second after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Suzanne Collins narrative here has an immediacy to it that, when combined with the very dramatic life-or-death plot, is incredibly compelling. It’s entertaining, and incredibly disturbing all at once. Suzanne Collins has, with one amazing work, propelled herself onto my top shelf.

    Have a nice day,
    Molly
